Very Important to Me
I am looking forward to my semester in Greece; however, one of my ways to connect with home is now being jeopardized. In March the Copyright Royalty Board increased the royalties internet radio providers have to pay between 300 and 1200 percent. If this measure continues as planned many webcasters will be forced to shut down. I listen to internet radio stations every day at work because of the convenience and flexibility they offer. Internet radio is varied like normal radio stations but can be used like a personal music player with options like 'pause' that come in handy when the phone is ringing off the hook.

Good News!!
I got my passport back a couple of days ago with the Visa from the Greek Embassy! It's all very exciting! The last pieces of the puzzle are coming together. It's a Student Visa for 90 days, which is shorter than my stay there; but I'll be getting a Housing Visa once I'm actually in Greece. It's fast approaching!

At school
I'm currently at my college for the summer, and I'm studying up for my trip to Greece. I have several small projects going on for this short term since I am not taking any classes. There is a paper I am writing about the cultural significance of comic books that I hope to present to a large conference in January. Of course I'm working on my Greek, and I'm working on work. I have an IT job here at my school and am pursuing a second job in Web Services.

Consulate

Tomorrow I am heading back to my university to work for the summer. I've got one job lined up and another one to interview for on Monday. I need that spending money for the great Greek shops! Feel free to ask me to bring you something back as long as it's small....and cheap [or you can pay me back]. No liquor, though. The drinking age in Greece is 18, so I'll be able to drink over there, but when I come back I won't be 21 yet.
καληνύχτα!

Setting it up!

Today I found out that my loans for Greece have been pre-approved! We had a bit of a rough spot, but it's all been smoothed out. Also, today I bought my plane tickets for going and returning. It's going to be an interesting trip to say the least. I leave from Denver early in the morning on August 27th and reach Athens mid-morning August 28th. I start back the morning of December 7th and arrive back at Denver late that evening local time. To me it'll be late, late. On the way back I get to go through Munich! Awesome! Four years of German shall not be wasted!
Tomorrow I'm going for a check-up to get a notarized letter saying that I don't have any diseases for the Greek consulate's approval. On Saturday I will be heading back to my university for the major portion of the summer to work in our Technology Services/Web Services. Fun all around!

Information on Volos

I thought I would give everybody some basic information on Volos, the city I will be traveling to in the fall. Volos is the capital of the Magnesia prefecture of Greece and lies about 330 miles north of Athens. It is a port city like a lot of cities in Greece, and Volos is one of the most important commercial ports between the mainland of Europe and the Greek islands. It is home to the University of Thessaly, and is a candidate city for the Mediterranean Games in 2013. The urban plan was formed in the 1880's and is very neoclassical; however, Volos survived a major earthquake in 1955 that reshaped the city. Volos is famous for many reasons but historically because the Quest for the Golden Fleece began there. The city was called Iolcus at that point in time, and the hero Jason was the rightful king of Iolcus. I won't go into the whole story. Feel free to look it up if you're curious. There are a bunch of archaeological sites around the city.
Sounds like fun!
